Righting the Vessel

In a recent course I took on Yoga of 12 Step Recovery, my teacher used the metaphor of a vessel at sea to illustrate how we can build a foundation, strengthen our core, and sustain an expression of love in our daily activities through both practices. Picture an overturned ship. After the extraordinary effort to upright it, the vessel must be cleaned and repaired. Once so, it is monitored to stay the course and sail on.

As I visit the ocean at sunrise and see a ship sailing by, I reflect on my many years visiting Rehoboth Beach over the 4th of July. Time has brought challenge and success, losses and gains, sometimes earned, but sometimes, not. The waves keep rolling in and out and I keep putting one foot in front of the other, grateful for the stroll.
