Why I love Yoga and Pilates

In the early 2000’s I became certified as a yoga teacher after a grueling amount of training. Based on the Iyengar technique, Anusara yoga blended alignment specifics with heart-centered languaging. It was love at first sight! But later, when the vinyasa style trended, I found myself frustrated by the lack of interest in the how and why of poses. My exposure to Pilates on the apparatus offered the perfect solution for me. The machines provided a container for the body and instant feedback from its weight and pulley system. Although I continued to teach private and semi-private yoga therapeutics as well as anatomy for teacher trainings, my work shifted to Pilates primarily on the reformer. It’s a wonderful workout in itself, but it is also a perfect learning tool for vinyasa yoga. I love the body/mind connection of Pilates, but can’t live without the inner exploration of spirit that a well-rounded yoga practice provides. Mindful and heart-felt, open meetings are donation-based and blend breath, imagery, movement and sharing for support in a continued commitment to gratitude and acceptance.
